ALISO VIEJO : City Changes System for Collecting Trash

Share

Trash and recyclables from about 6,600 households will be collected by a new automated system, starting next week.

Solag Disposal Inc. started dropping off special containers Tuesday and expects to complete the distribution by Friday.

Automated pickups will start Monday for about half the community and for the rest of Aliso Viejo by the following week.

Under the program, customers get separate containers--one for trash and another for recyclables such as glass, aluminum, plastics and newspapers.

Trash and recyclables will be picked up by separate trucks and delivered either to landfills or a recycling process center.

Solag officials said the program will help the community meet state requirements for a 25% reduction this year in the amount of trash taken to landfills.

Most residential customers will get two 35-gallon containers and will pay $12.55 a month. Larger households that request two 67-gallon containers will pay $14.75 a month. Information: (714) 240-0446.
