GOP: Focus on Work, Not Allen

* Leslie Earley of Laguna Niguel claims that Speaker of the Assembly Doris Allen isn’t a member of the Republican Party. (Letters, Sept. 4). I live in the 67th Assembly District and Allen has been our assemblywoman for quite a few terms now, and she has always run and served as a Republican.

Perhaps writer Earley means Allen isn’t a real Republican. This is a possibility. If you define a real Republican as someone who does as she is told by the esteemed gentlemen listed in Earley’s letter, Allen obviously doesn’t qualify. On the other hand, she can count to 41 (the number of votes by which she was elected Speaker of the Assembly), a math skill that seems to be absent in the Republican leadership.

I urge these Republican leaders to give it up and stop wasting their time and our money on recall efforts. Get back to Sacramento, go to work, and start acting like the majority party.
