STYLE : FALL BEAUTY : INDULGE YOURSELF

He’s picking you up at 7 p.m., which gives you plenty of time to do what you never, ever do: Pamper yourself. Instead of the usual five-minutes-in-front-of-the-mirror-and-out-the-door routine, you have all morning to savor a cup of joe while you play around with some of that new makeup you just bought. There’s a lipstick called Natural Buff. Perfect, you think, for that pale-lip-sultry-eye thing that’s happening for fall. And a gloss the color of coffee ice cream. Yum. This day of treating yourself to some TLC is a good idea. After all, if you don’t, who will?

No more nightclubs. No more Melrose Avenue. Tonight’s plans call for a romantic dinner out. That means cuddling by candlelight and a complexion that will have to look flawless. Well, almost. Better reach for a deep-cleansing mask, one containing natural and synthetic clays to eliminate any schoolgirl shine. And your hair--it’ll need more body if you sweep it up into a sexy twist. Here’s your chance to experiment with a super-duper conditioner, the instant kind that makes room for more important things. Like a nap.

It’s a rare day of beauty, from head to toe. While away the hours with your favorite book. Take a long luxurious soak in the tub. Maybe try the bath powder with the Dead Sea salts, the cleansing gel with the essential oils and the fancy French soaps. They’re supposed to soften and moisturize the skin; all you know is, they’re bound to leave you relaxed and refreshed. And who cares if he’ll never see your feet in those go-go boots? You deserve a pedicure. But how to decide between the mod pinks and whites and the vampish berries and plums? Good thing almost any shade of polish works this fall.

On your face tonight, the choices seem simple enough. Forget that demure day look. Heavy on the smoky eyeliner and smudged shadow and ditto for the pale lipstick and gloss. (You knew that new kohl eye pencil would come in handy.) At the last minute, pull on that soft, fuzzy sweater over your satin shift and zip up the white vinyl boots. There’s the doorbell now. Dab on a bit of fragrance and take one last peek at the mirror on the way out the door. Feeling butterflies? Hey, some things never change.
