Maurice (Bravo Sunday at 8 p.m.) is James Ivory’s superb 1987 film of the E.M. Forster novel. It takes us into the complacent, fixed world of Great Britain’s pre-World War I privileged classes, which could be an absolute hell for gays. In the title role, James Wilby, who sees himself and is seen as an utterly regular fellow, is plunged into multifaceted conflict when confronted with his attraction for the handsome Clive (Hugh Grant, before anyone in America knew who he was).

This Is Spinal Tap (Cinemax Thursday at 5 a.m.) is the on-the-mark 1984 satire of rock documentaries: An over-the-hill British heavy-metal band embarks on its disastrous last American tour. Directed with winning panache by Rob Reiner; script and music by the cast (Michael McKean, Chris Guest, Harry Shearer).
