World IN BRIEF : IRAQ : Defector Says Hussein Foes Ready for Coup

A son-in-law of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein who defected last month to Jordan said opposition within Iraq is ready to overthrow Hussein’s regime, Time magazine reported. The remarks by Lt. Gen. Hussein Kamel Majid, who fled with his brother and their wives--both daughters of Hussein--came as Iraq’s National Assembly unanimously approved Hussein as the sole candidate to run in a presidential election to be held within the next two months--the first such vote in Iraq since it became a republic in 1958.
