Northridge : Panel OKs Revised Plan for Nightclub

Share

In response to neighborhood opposition, a proposed pool hall and nightclub in Northridge will become a scaled-down restaurant and nightclub instead, a Los Angeles zoning panel ruled Tuesday.

Douglas Noecker was seeking a city permit to open an establishment serving as many as 766 patrons on the former site of a nude dance club in the 9000 block of Corbin Avenue. Under the revised proposal approved by the Board of Zoning Appeals, Noecker will operate a restaurant serving 100 people and an adjacent dance floor.

In denying Noecker’s initial permit application, a zoning official noted in an April 17 written decision that Noecker’s proposal was “notably unfocused” and that at maximum capacity the property contained only one parking space for every eight patrons.

Noecker’s revised plan was greeted warmly by homeowners, who are hopeful that the nightclub doesn’t spawn traffic problems and fights in the neighborhood.

“The community won a victory, not 100% but 80%,” said Walter Prince, a member of the West Valley homeowner group PRIDE.

“The only problem we’ll have with that establishment is if the nightclub operation gets out of hand,” he said.
