Paulette Fuller is the new principal at A.G. Currie, a Tustin middle school with about 800 students.

Fuller succeeds interim Principal Jerry Kill, who served during the spring semester after former Principal Dan Brooks was promoted to the top administrative position at Foothill High School.

Fuller has more than 25 years of experience in education, Tustin Unified School District officials said, and was most recently the principal of Haskell Junior High School in Cerritos. She also served as principal of Willow and Cerritos elementary schools there.

In other major staff changes, Connie Smith, former principal of W.R. Nelson Elementary, has been appointed principal of Tustin Ranch Elementary School, the first new facility to be built in the district in 22 years.

Filling Smith’s previous position is Darlene Messinger, who was principal at Nelson in 1992 before taking a leave of absence.

Kurt Harper, who has designed programs for at-risk youth, was selected to head the district’s comprehensive alternative education program.

The plan will be developed over two years, officials said, and will ultimately include a continuation high school, adult school, independent study and other programs at one location.
