Hilton Warns of Possible Lower Profits: Hilton Hotels Corp. said its third-quarter earnings could fall below last year’s third-quarter net income of $27 million or remain flat. The Beverly Hills-based company said it expects the financial performance of its gaming operations to fall significantly from last year’s as a result of general softness in the Las Vegas market and increased bad debt expense and lower-than-expected winnings at the Las Vegas Hilton. Hilton, which plans to spin off its gambling operations into a separate company, anticipates its hotel business to post double-digit growth during the quarter. The third-quarter results are expected to be released the week of Oct. 9.
