Mayor Richard Riordan will visit three Harbor-Gateway area businesses today to discuss with company officials the economic climate in Los Angeles as well as why they either moved to the city or stayed in it after planning to relocate elsewhere.
Joined by Councilman Rudy Svorinich, the mayor will make stops at Americaware by Feltman-Langer, Standard Communications and Pacific Electricord. Together, the three companies account for some 870 jobs and add more than $165 million to the local economy, the mayor’s office said.
Both Americaware and Pacific Electricord had considered moving out of town but were persuaded to stay by the city’s Business Team; Standard Communications moved to L.A. from Carson.
Beginning at 4:30 p.m. at Americaware, Riordan and Svorinich will tour the manufacturing plant at each business, then meet with company managers.
