The Nutty Professor (TNT Thursday at 5 p.m.), Jerry Lewis’ 1963 variation on “Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde,” is a double dose of the comedian: He plays the awkward, lisping Prof. Julius Kelp and his alter-ego, stone-cool swinger Buddy Love, who wins all the campus beauties Kelp can’t. (Some critics insist Love is a pardy of Dean Martin.) Lewis co-wrote and directed this little comic masterpiece, set in a Kingston Trio-era collegiate period, and it works because of the depths of the psychosexual fears and frustrations he’s playing with.
