Gulfstream to Unveil New Jet: Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. plans to roll out its new top-of-the-line Gulfstream V business jet Friday, and some Southern California aircraft suppliers have sizable investments riding on the plane. The Gulfstream V, priced around $35 million fully equipped, can fly up to 6,500 nautical miles nonstop and carry 19 passengers. Its wings are built by Los Angeles-based Northrop Grumman Corp., and other suppliers include Torrance-based AlliedSignal Aerospace, which makes the jet’s environmental-control and auxiliary power systems. However, the Gulfstream V not only faces competition from Bombardier Inc.’s Global Express jet and others, it also must overcome relentless cost-cutting efforts at many companies that would preclude any need for corporate jets. Gulfstream, owned by the investment firm Forstmann Little & Co., is a Savannah, Ga.-based concern that also has a major service center in Long Beach.
