TUSTIN : Panel to Study Changes in Irvine Co. Proposal

Share

Public hearings on the latest draft of an Irvine Co. proposal to develop housing in areas of East Tustin will probably be next month, officials said, so that the Planning Commission can have more time to review it.

The City Council rejected an earlier proposal after residents complained that the development would allow too many apartments in the area and that the increase in density would lead to traffic congestion and crime.

Under the latest plan, the Irvine Co. has agreed to limit the density to that allowed by the East Tustin Specific Plan and to develop no more than 8,058 units in the area of Tustin Ranch--about a 12% reduction from the previous proposal.

In other parcels, housing designations were changed from medium-high density to medium and medium-low density.
