TOURISM/TRAVEL : Rare-Fare Deals: Some Low-Cost Flights Are Available at John Wayne Airport
America West has been offering a 2-for-1 fare sale to 17 destinations from Orange County’s John Wayne Airport.
John Wayne often gets the low-fare shaft because airlines are limited in the number of flights they can handle at the airport. Fewer flights means fuller planes and less of a need to offer discounts to fill them.
A pair of fliers will pay $158 round-trip to Tucson or Las Vegas, for instance, or $448 round-trip to Omaha, Neb.
“These companion fare savings reinforce our commitment to Orange County,” said John Garel, senior vice president of America West.
The fare deal is running indefinitely but requires a seven-day or 14-day advance purchase and minimum stay of two nights or overnight Saturday, depending on the destination.
