U.N. Rebuffs Taiwan

TAIPEI, Taiwan —
The government of Taiwan said Thursday it was disappointed at being refused membership in the United Nations but will try again next year.
China managed for the third time on Wednesday to keep Taiwan’s bid off the agenda at the U.N. General Assembly. In 1971, Taiwan lost its U.N. seat to China, which claims sovereignty over the island.
