COSTA MESA : Drivers Who Ran Over Motorcyclist Sought

Share

The California Highway Patrol is looking for information about two vehicles that ran over a downed motorcyclist on a Costa Mesa Freeway on-ramp early Monday. The motorcyclist died at the scene.

CHP Officer Mike Lundquist said motorcyclist Carlos Lima, 32, was traveling north on the San Diego Freeway about 5:15 a.m. when he made what appears to have been an abrupt move to enter the northbound Costa Mesa Freeway.

Lima swerved to the right, hit a raised curb and was thrown from the cycle. His helmet, which does not appear to have been strapped on properly, flew off, Lundquist said. Two cars then ran over Lima’s body and kept going.

Witnesses told the CHP that one of the vehicles looked like a Ford Taurus and was missing its left front hubcap. The second vehicle looked like a white Ford Ranger pickup, Lundquist said.

Anybody who saw the vehicles or has further information about the accident should contact Officer Ron Brame or Officer Carlo Marzocca at (714) 547-8311.
