VILLA PARK : Council OKs Increase in Speed Limit to 45
The speed limit on Villa Park Road will be increased from 40 to 45 m.p.h. under an ordinance tentatively adopted by the City Council.
The council moved to increase the limit after a state-required traffic survey found that most motorists travel at the higher speed anyway. The council will make its final decision on the increase Oct. 31.
Councilman Barry L. Denes said he worried that one speed-limit increase would inexorably lead to another. “By moving the limit from 40 to 45, I’m afraid everyone’s now going to be traveling at 50 m.p.h.,” Denes said. Nonetheless, Denes joined other council members in the unanimous vote in favor of the ordinance.
