Dennis Is a Rushing Menace, Westchester Reaps the Benefits

Share

Darryl Dennis zig-zagged to 77 yards and one touchdown in only nine carries to lead Westchester (3-1) to a 27-6 victory over Fairfax in a Coastal Conference game Friday night before a crowd of 1,500 at Westchester.

“The kid’s got talent, but there were so many missed tackles, it was disgusting,” Fairfax Coach Joe Maiale said.

When he wasn’t running with the ball, Dennis was used as a decoy to set up the Comets’ passing. Brennan Crooks passed for 104 yards and two touchdowns, both to tight end Timon Gaines.

Dennis scored on a 10-yard run to give Westchester a 7-0 first-quarter lead, but his biggest contribution came when he rescued the Comets from a first-and-40 situation. Dennis gained 21 yards on a hook-and-lateral play and another 12 on a run before the Comets got their key first down.

Givenchy Martin’s two-yard scoring run completed a 61-yard drive.

Fairfax (2-2) scored on Jermaine Lewis’ 76-yard quarterback keeper. Crooks’ touchdown passes of 34 and 18 yards to Gaines in the second half turned the game into a rout.
