‘35 Up’

Share

This is the latest (1991) installment in Michael Apted’s startling series of British documentaries that began with “Seven Up” in 1964. Every seven years Apted has checked in on the lives of 14 individuals from the age of 7 who represent a cross-section of society. The result is a glimpse into the trajectories of various lives that suggests that most peoples’ existences are defined more by limits than possibilities, especially in class-conscious British society. Pictured is one of the documentary’s subjects--Lynn at age 35--holding earlier photos of herself and other subjects (Bravo Tuesday at 5 p.m., again at midnight).
