Family Enterprises: Research shows that only 30% of family businesses survive into the second generation, and a mere 10% into the third. The problem is attracting increasing attention amid the current entrepreneurial explosion, which often entails family enterprises. John L. Ward, a professor at Loyola University of Chicago and authority on the subject, will lead a seminar today entitled “Perpetuating the Family Business... The Ultimate Management Challenge.” Ward, who has a doctoral degree from Stanford University will discuss factors that help or hinder family businesses as well as strategies to avoid conflict and preserve the company and family. The program, sponsored by the Family Business Council at Cal State Fullerton, is from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Embassy Suites in Brea. Attendance is free to council members and is $225 to non-members.
