* Re “Perot Dealt Blow in Bid to Put Party on Ballot,” Oct. 5:

Go down to the county courthouse and register Reform Party now [Independence Party in other states]. Change later if you see the need, but now, just for now, let’s get something serious other than Democrat or Republican on the ballot. California is just too important a state to be removed from contention in this, of all elections. Our election laws seem to restrain the people’s right to actually select their representatives.

* Re “Perot Launches Drive for Third National Party,” Sept. 26:

One does not have to be a psychiatrist to determine that Perot is an egomaniac and suffers from delusions of grandeur. He doesn’t have George Bush to kick around this time. The slick veneer of this con man has worn off and most of his ex-followers are not going to waste their vote on his third party.

* Re “GOP Sees Perot as a Threat to Its White House Bid,” Sept. 27:

Your article on Ross Perot’s possible entry into presidential politics again for 1996 perpetuates a myth about the 1992 election. GOP leaders assert that Bush would have won the 1992 election, if only Perot had not drawn enough Republican votes to result in the election of Bill Clinton with less than 50%. However, every study that I have seen of the 1992 vote has suggested that Perot drew proportionally from both major candidates. In other words, without Perot in the race, Clinton would have been elected with about 53% of the vote. Perot had no effect on the outcome.
