Obituaries : John Dale Moon Sr.; Peoples Lumber Retiree

John Dale Moon Sr., a 51-year Ventura County resident, died of cancer Sunday at his Ojai home. He was 76.

Moon was born May 17, 1919, in Griswold, Iowa, and moved to Ventura County in 1944, shortly after marrying his wife, Dorothy M. Maulhardt of Oxnard, in 1943.

Moon joined the 9th Air Force during World War II, and as a first lieutenant flew an A-20 Havoc airplane in 65 missions over Europe.

He had been employed as a sales manager at Tri-County Wholesale in Ventura and as assistant manager at Peoples Lumber Co. in Santa Paula, retiring from Peoples Lumber in 1973.

Moon was an avid camper, fisherman and outdoorsman.

He is survived by his wife; his sons, John Moon Jr. of Ojai, Roger Moon of Thousand Oaks and Richard Moon of Santa Paula; his daughter, Cathy Moon of Ojai; his sisters, Arlene Reeves of Dallas and Evelyn Curry of San Diego; his brother, Lester Moon of Mena, Ark., and five grandchildren.

Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the Skillin-Carroll Chapel in Santa Paula. Services will be held there at 10 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Santa Paula Cemetery.
