Russia Official Held in Embezzlement Scheme

MOSCOW —
A senior Russian health official has been arrested on suspicion of embezzling about $330,000 meant to provide ambulances for the Chechen conflict, Interfax news agency said Tuesday.
Health Minister Eduard A. Nechayev said in a statement that a financial department head, Alexander Shirshok, was arrested last week after $330,000 set aside to pay for the ambulances was paid into a bank that did not exist, it said.
