Share

Seeking to raise awareness of breast cancer in a county with one of the highest rates of the disease nationwide, the Comprehensive Breast Health Center will have an open house and informational seminar Saturday.

One in seven women in the county has breast cancer, compared to one in nine nationwide.

“Breast disease is a complex issue that requires personalized care to insure the best treatment and results,” said Dr. C.H. Baick, founder of the center at Western Medical Center-Santa Ana.

During two 90-minute discussion panels, titled “Women and Wisdom--Insights From Adversity,” health-care professionals and breast cancer sufferers will speak about how to deal with the disease.

Dr. Dava F. Gerard, director of the center, will talk on “Lessons From My Patients”; Nancy Raymon, a registered nurse and cancer survivor, will speak on “Reflections of My Cancer Experience,” and a panel of people whose cancer has been treated will discuss the wisdom gained from living with the disease. Discussions will begin at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

The Comprehensive Breast Health Center provides early detection and diagnostic services. “We recognize that almost 75% of the women who have breast cancer do not need to lose their breast in order to save their life,” said Daniel L. Frank, chief executive officer of Western Medical Center.

The event is free. The Comprehensive Breast Health Center is at 999 N. Tustin Ave., Suites 109 and 209, Santa Ana.
