Bob Chaney; Fillmore High’s Head Custodian

Bob Chaney, a longtime Ventura County resident and head custodian at Fillmore High School, died Thursday after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 62.

Born Dec. 14, 1932, at Shields Ranch in Fillmore, Chaney was educated in the Fillmore school system. He graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and spent the last 10 years of his life as the head custodian at Fillmore High School.

Chaney also had been a soccer coach for the high school’s girls soccer team and started the school’s Boys & Girls Soccer Club. He also was a member of the Staffmen Quartet.

He enjoyed having barbecues with family and friends, singing in a barbershop quartet and participating in his church choir and bell ringers.

Chaney is survived by Raelene, his wife of 31 years; daughters Karen Roberts of Colorado, Dana Myers of Oklahoma, Chris-Anne Barker and Susan Golson of Fillmore; son Kirby Chaney of Texas; mother Irene Chaney; and 10 grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Skillin-Carroll Mortuary in Santa Paula. In lieu of flowers, Chaney requested that donations be made to Fillmore High Boys & Girls Soccer Club, Santa Clara Hospice or Bardsdale United Methodist Church.
