Oxnard to Show Itself Off to Travel Writers

Share

In its latest attempt to boost Oxnard’s tourism business, the Greater Oxnard Harbors & Tourism Bureau will show off the city’s attractions to representatives of several magazines.

Writers from Sunset, Westways and Avenues are among those expected for a three-day press trip scheduled to begin Oct. 27.

“Our biggest obstacle is image,” says Carol Lavender, the bureau’s executive director. “When we are able to show the press what we have, they are stunned.”

A half-dozen writers are scheduled to take part in this month’s tour. They will visit Channel Islands Harbor, Santa Cruz Island, Oxnard Airport, Heritage Square and the harbor area’s new farmer’s market.

The bureau plans to organize two such trips a year for press groups. An advertising campaign augments the city’s public relations effort.
