In 1883, C.J. Sketchley of Cape Town, South Africa, started an ostrich farm in what is now Anaheim.
The birds didn’t do well there, so Sketchley bought a parcel for them two years later on higher ground between Fullerton and Placentia, near Cal State Fullerton. He eventually sold the farm, which remained in business for several years.
