EVERYWHERE

(Except High Mountains)

Sow/plant in cold frame where there are freezes.

Sow: Green onions, all peas, radishes, winter greens and herbs; also broccoli (except in low mountains).

Plant: Garlic, hardy perennial herbs (except in low mountains).

Harvest: Assorted beans, cardoons, collards, eggplant, herbs, Jerusalem artichokes, kale, New Zealand spinach, peanuts, pumpkins, gourds, winter squash, summer squash, sweet potatoes. Also corn, cucumbers, melons, watermelons, peppers, tomatillos, tomatoes (except in low desert), Asian greens, beets, leafy celery, chard, green garlic, onions, shallots, radishes (except in deserts).

COASTAL CLIMATES

Sow: Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, leaf celery, fennel, all onions.

Plant: Perennial herbs.

Harvest: Artichokes, carrots, cauliflower, kohlrabi, salad greens, salsify, scorzonera, spinach, turnips.

LOW DESERT

Sow: Common beans, chickpeas, favas, beets, Brussels sprouts, cardoons, carrots, cauliflower, celeriac, leaf celery, fennel, kohlrabi, all onions, turnips.

Plant: Perennial herbs, leeks, strawberries.

HIGH DESERT

Sow: All onions.

INTERIOR CLIMATES (Where fuchsias won’t grow)

Plant: Strawberries.

INTERIOR CLIMATES (Where fuchsias grow fairly well)

Sow: Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, kohlrabi, turnips.

Harvest: Broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, kohlrabi, turnips.

LOW MOUNTAINS

Sow: Radicchio.

KEY

Winter greens and herbs: Arugula, cabbage, chard, chervil, chicories, Chinese cabbages, chives, cilantro, collards, corn salad, cress, dandelion, endive, green-in-the-snow mustard, green onions, shallots, kale, komatsuna (mustard spinach), lettuce, mizuna, parsley, rosette pak choi, sorrel, spinach.

When seeds can be sown, seedlings of the same crop can be planted. All crops can be grown in containers.
