COLLEGIATE WELCOME: Santa Monica College on Saturday will inaugurate its first woman president, who also will be the first Latina to head the 66-year-old school.

Piedad F. Robertson, who took on the duties of president in July, was the secretary of education in Massachusetts before she accepted the position in Santa Monica. She replaces Dr. Richard Moore, who had been president of the college for 20 years and left to become president of a community college in Las Vegas.

The inauguration ceremony Saturday will top off a week of celebrations, with lectures, dance demonstrations and an inaugural ball.
