BLUES BROTHER

In regard to “A Bluesman’s Tangled Legacy,” by Denise Hamilton (Oct. 8) about Robert Johnson: It is indeed time everyone noticed how many people this man’s music touched.

But it seems that the writer is a bit biased against Steve LaVere, who some say is depriving the descendants of a poor rural black musician of his financial legacy.

LaVere has been a major contributor to the blues community for a long time now. He has invested his time and money quietly in new blues artists and assisted still-living blues legends in the rural South.

Perhaps LaVere is the manager and promoter Johnson needed to champion him when he was still alive. It’s to all of our advantage that LaVere cut through the legal snags so that we can all enjoy Johnson’s music today.
