Home Mortgage Rates Rise: Interest rates on home loans rose this week for the first time since late September, the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corp. said. In its weekly report, Freddie Mac said 30-year, fixed-rate mortgages rose to an average 7.45% in the week ended last Friday, from 7.38% the previous week. Fifteen-year, fixed-rate loans rose to 7.01% from 6.92%. The last time the 30- and 15-year rates rose was in the week ended Sept. 29. One-year, adjustable-rate mortgages inched up to 5.73% during the week from 5.72%. The National Assn. of Realtors reported a fifth straight monthly rise in home resales for September as consumers have taken advantage of the yearlong downward trend in rates. A year ago, 30-year mortgages averaged 9.03%, 15-year loans 8.47% and ARM loans 5.88%.
