San Gabriel Valley : Presidential Candidate Buchanan to Speak

Republican presidential candidate Patrick J. Buchanan will make a stop in La Canada on Sunday to speak to a group of his supporters and raise campaign funds.

“He will be focusing on a variety of things that he usually focuses on,” said K. B. Forbes, a campaign spokesman. Buchanan has taken a strong stance against affirmative action programs and NAFTA-like trade agreements, and has emphasized the importance of stemming illegal immigration.

Several hundred supporters from the San Gabriel Valley and the Greater Los Angeles area have been invited to the home of Tom and Eva Jeffers, at 1823 Foothill Blvd., for the event. Buchanan previously held a successful fund-raiser there this summer, Forbes said, and hopes to pump up support among those with whom his message resonates.

“We’re focusing on getting the grass-roots conservative foot soldiers,” Forbes said. “They’re the true believers . . .”
