From Times Staff and Wire Reports

The U.S. military will begin searching for the remains of Marines killed in the ill-fated 1975 Mayaguez rescue mission off the Cambodian coast. U.S. servicemen said the search will be backed by the first American Navy vessel welcomed in Cambodian waters in more than 20 years. U.S. personnel will search Tang Island for the remains of 15 of the 38 Marines killed by Khmer Rouge gunfire or in helicopter crashes in the Gulf of Thailand during a May, 1975, mission to rescue the crew of the merchant ship Mayaguez, which had already been freed after a U.S. bombing raid.
