Powell Cartoon

Congratulations to Paul Conrad on Oct. 25’s excellent cartoon. Conrad may be the first political critic to pull back the cloak of military “heroism” under which Colin Powell stands. Let’s hope the real debate on the retired soldier’s “character” begins here. As for the letter writers who defend Powell (Oct. 27), one might remember that the “I was just following orders” defense has been used before.

Please keep the semi-retired Conrad in ink. He’s a “soldier” we can’t afford to let fade away.
