Marlene Herald; Actress, Community Volunteer
Marlene Herald, 62, a stage and screen actress and community volunteer who helped create Para Los Ninos. A native of Vancouver, Mrs. Herald first acted in Canadian theaters under the name Marlene Lightbody. When she moved to Hollywood in the early 1950s, she married screenwriter Earl Felton and appeared in several films as Marlene Felton. Later married to producer Peter V. Herald, she switched her professional pursuits and wrote screenplays and a series of books about teaching music to children. In addition to her work with Para Los Ninos, a group that assists children living on Los Angeles’ Skid Row, she worked with prison reform groups and Amnesty International. She was also a volunteer with the Los Angeles Public Library literacy program and was president of the support group of the Center for Medieval and Renaissance studies at UCLA. On Oct. 21 in Los Angeles of cancer.
