Jennie Weeden; Lived to Be 110

Jennie June Weeden, 110, who attributed her long life to moderation in all things. A native of Milwaukee, Mrs. Weeden had lived in California since 1948. She worked as secretary of the Whittier Presbyterian Church for 17 years and was a lifelong volunteer in Presbyterian women’s groups in Whittier and later in Claremont. Until recent years, she had continued to volunteer her talents as a seamstress to the young patients and staff of Childrens Hospital. Mrs. Weeden, who lived alone until she was past 100, never smoked, never drove, walked a lot and advocated a nightly glass of sweet dessert wine. When she was hospitalized for a broken hip at 101, the hospital computer balked at recording a triple-digit age--confounding the doctor who wondered what an old lady was doing registered in a 1-year-old’s bed. On Friday in Claremont.
