SIMI VALLEY : Man Is Jailed After Standoff With Police

A Simi Valley man was in custody at Ventura County Jail on Sunday, a day after he was arrested following a three-hour standoff with police.

Michael Brindos, 28, was arrested on suspicion of resisting arrest and assault with a deadly weapon after he allegedly pointed a loaded rifle at his live-in girlfriend and their 9-week-old baby. His bail was set at $20,000.

Police received a call about 5:35 p.m. from Tabatha Hoyer, 25, saying Brindos aimed the gun at her and their child after he had been drinking for several hours. Hoyer, who left their apartment before calling police, also said Brindos had broken some furniture.

Officers found Brindos in the courtyard of his apartment complex and tried to talk with him, but he returned to the apartment.

Police SWAT and crisis negotiation teams were called and nearby apartments were evacuated. Brindos left the apartment about 9:30 p.m. and was arrested after a brief struggle with police. He suffered minor cuts and bruises during the arrest. No officers were hurt.
