HUNTINGTON BEACH : City Considering Site for New Reservoir

Share

A site just across city limits in Westminster is being considered for a 9-million-gallon reservoir.

The city is negotiating to buy the two-acre site at Beach Boulevard and Edinger Avenue. Appraisal of the property should be completed in about 45 days, said Jeffrey Renna, water operations manager.

A well also is proposed for the site.

The reservoir would be built by Seacliff Partners to mitigate the effects of the development company’s Holly-Seacliff housing project on the city’s water system. The city would buy the property, Renna said, then be reimbursed by Seacliff Partners.

Though the site is outside city limits, officials said, that is not unusual.

Water-supply facilities for several municipalities are in other areas of Orange County, they said, because water rights are established on a countywide basis.

With new reservoir sites difficult to find from a seismic, operation and situational perspective, the Westminster location is especially attractive, Huntington Beach officials said.
