Mixed Rates on T-Bills: Interest rates on short-term Treasury securities were mixed in auction. The Treasury Department sold $14.6 billion in three-month bills at an average discount rate of 5.36%, up from 5.29% last week. Another $14.7 billion was sold in six-month bills at an average discount rate of 5.29%, down from 5.31%. The three-month bill rate was the highest since they sold for 5.43% on Aug. 21. The six-month bill rate was the lowest since they averaged 5.27% on Sept. 25. The new discount rates understate the actual return to investors: 5.52% for three-month bills, with a $10,000 bill selling for $9,864.50, and 5.53% for a six-month bill selling for $9,732.60.
