Taco Bell Adds Bacon Items to Beef Up Sales: Lower-fat menu items were supposed to improve the Irvine-based fast-food chain’s bottom line and attract an older crowd, but sales are disappointing and profit has slipped. So the Mexican-style chain, bowing to the 18-to-24-year-old males who are its main devotees, is now promoting tacos and burritos packed with a high-calorie American favorite: bacon. The idea is to combine “lunchtime classics with the unique excitement of Mexican food,” said Jerry Gramaglia, a Taco Bell senior vice president. The Bacon Cheeseburger Burrito, BLT Soft Taco and Chicken Club Burrito, introduced this week, are part of an industry trend.
