Boat Makers in Safety Recall: Mastercraft’s Maristar 200 VRS 1995 and 1996 models have fuel tanks that are susceptible to premature wear that could cause a leak and fire or explosion, the Coast Guard reported. Various models made by Anchor Industries Inc., Kruger Brand Boat Manufacturers, Galaxie Boat Works Inc., T&S; Boats Inc., Sea Ray Boats Inc. and Tracker Marine all have faulty Attwood Corp.-manufactured “angle deck fills” that can fracture and cause an explosion, the Coast Guard said. Bayliner Marine Corp.’s 2250 Capri LS and Capri SS for the 1995 model year lack adequate engine space ventilation. Outboard Marine’s 1991-95 Stratos, Javelin and Hydra Sports boats have problematic “jack plates” that could lead to a sudden loss of steering and shifting control, the Coast Guard reported. Invader Marine’s Reefrunner model failed compliance testing for level flotation and weight capacity and could fail to float level if swamped, the Coast Guard said. All models but the Invader boat can be returned to the manufacturer or dealer for the installation of new equipment at no cost, the Coast Guard said. Invader Marine is out of business. The Coast Guard suggests that Reefrunner owners have their boats checked at another marine outfitter or that they call the Coast Guard customer information line at (800) 368-5647.
