Share

County Clerk-Recorder Gary L. Granville said this week he is moving forward with plans to install $35,000 worth of security equipment aimed at ending a rash of burglaries in the county office.

The money will be used to buy video cameras that will monitor all entrances to the office. Exterior lights and special locks designed to anchor computers and other office equipment to desks also will be purchased.

The Board of Supervisors approved the security plan at a meeting last month. The clerk-recorder’s office, at 12 Civic Center Drive, Santa Ana, handles such county records as marriage licenses and real estate documents.

Three burglaries have taken place at the office in the past six months.

Thieves made off with $20,000 worth of computers in June. In August, about $5,000 in equipment was stolen from county consultants working in the office. And about $20,000 in cash and computer equipment was stolen in October.
