Update : Follow-up on the news : HUNTINGTON BEACH : Jail Cell Rentals Generate City Funds
The Police Department’s program to open its jail doors to other municipalities is paying off.
Since 1991, the jail has operated a contract booking service for other agencies.
The program was developed to temporarily house prisoners for the Immigration and Naturalization Service.

Last year, the contract booking and the “Pay to Stay” program generated $222,006 for the city from 1,200 short-term prisoners.
