WASHINGTON — Rep. Mike Parker, a four-term Mississippi Democrat, is switching to the Republicans, his spokesman said Friday.
The switch by Parker, 46, will give the Republicans a 234-198 majority in the House. There is one independent who usually votes with the Democrats and two seats are vacant.
Parker will become the fourth House Democrat to switch since the Republicans captured the House and Senate in last November’s elections. Two senators have also changed from the Democrats to the Republicans.
Parker was elected to the House in 1988. He serves on the Transportation and Public Works Committee and the Budget Committee.
