Police are offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of a bicycle thief who has stolen more than 20 bicycles from Ventura residences over the past two months.
Police said the burglar has taken bicycles out of garages in the areas north and south of California 126 bordered by Kimball and Wells roads. The burglar strikes residences during the day, and police said a white van was seen in the area prior to the crimes.
“It seems to be a crime of opportunity--someone seeing an open garage door goes in and takes a bike,” said Detective Matt Harvill of the Ventura Police Department. “They are definitely out there doing quite a bit of it.”
Police estimate the total loss at about $10,500. Police said anyone with information about the bicycle thief should call Crime Stoppers at 385-4376. Callers may remain anonymous.
