Voice Powered Technology Report Shows Turnaround

Voice Powered Technology International Inc., which markets voice-recognition consumer electronics products, reported a profit for the third quarter after posting a loss a year ago.
The Sherman Oaks company earned $199,000 in the quarter ended Sept. 30, compared to a loss of $290,000 in the third quarter of 1994. Its sales rose 62%, to $6.14 million from $3.79 million.
For the first nine months of 1995, Voice Powered had net income of $547,000, while its sales jumped 87%, to $17.9 million. A year before, it lost $326,000 on sales of $9.54 million.
The company said its improved financial results reflected the strength of its IQ. Voice Organizer product line and the expansion of its sales channels. However, it said that its fourth-quarter results would be hurt by disappointing sales of its new IQ. Voice MessagePad product.
