House Vote on Abortion

Share

Re “House Votes to Ban Rare Form of Abortions,” Nov. 2: I wish to commend The Times for including a graphic word description of the infamous and allegedly rare abortion procedure for late-term, viable births. Regardless of anyone’s belief, this procedure is of the Hitler era of Dr. Mengele’s mind-set.

Anyone who has and is fighting to preserve this procedure has got to be sick--this includes our President, government representatives, and members of the medical profession.

How much farther down do they try to lead a nation than to Dr. Mengele’s level?

Regarding “A Gruesome Piece of Legislation,” editorial, Nov. 3:

How has it come to this, that one would consider murder a “medical procedure”?

How can the “humanitarian,” “compassionate,” “religious” members of the House who voted to end late-term abortions presume to legislate suffering? Do they know that the procedures to test for abnormalities are not given before 16 weeks and that results from tests on the amniotic fluid are often not available for several more weeks?

Do they believe would-be parents easily make the decision to abort? Imagine having to struggle with the soul-searing news that a baby you desperately want will be born to a life of constant pain, surgeries, the loneliness of crying in the night in a hospital, before its life finally, mercifully ends.

Would it be crass to mention these elected officials are the same “bleeding hearts” who demonstrated their commitment to life by voting to cut Medicaid funds? Will loving members of the House care for the medical needs of doomed, poor babies?

So the House votes to outlaw “partial-birth abortions.” Who gave them a license to practice medicine?
