Westside : Mall With Parking Proposed

Share

If Westwood residents and business owners approve the concept, a portion of Westwood Village could become an open-air mall, featuring outside eateries and retail shops with space for parking underneath.

Los Angeles City Councilman Mike Feuer will propose the idea tonight at a meeting of Westwood residents. Feuer called the meeting to discuss longstanding plans to build a 400-space parking structure on Broxton Avenue, in the heart of Westwood.

Construction of the multilevel garage has been under discussion since the early 1980s as a way to relieve parking headaches. But the garage had been put on hold for years while Westwood residents dealt with other issues related to revitalizing the shopping area.

The city already has set aside money for the Westwood parking project from parking meter revenues, said Feuer’s spokesman, Howard Gantman.
