American Cancer Society Seeks Volunteers in Sherman Oaks

The American Cancer Society needs volunteers for its Sherman Oaks Discovery Shop, due to reopen today at 4454 Van Nuys Blvd. No special skills are needed to volunteer. The shop also needs donations of well-maintained used clothing, jewelry, household items, furniture, antiques, estate items, collectibles and other items that can be sold. German Shepherd Rescue, a Burbank shelter that rescues and places homeless German shepherds, needs volunteers to walk and groom dogs and perform other jobs in the shelter. For more information, call the shelter at (818) 558-7560. Or in the evenings, call (818) 985-9393.

The Los Angeles County Area Agency on Aging needs volunteer case aides and office support aides for the Adult Protective Services program. Volunteers help social workers who deal with senior citizens and disabled adults. Case aides help contact medical and social services and obtain emergency food and housing. People with backgrounds in law enforcement, health services, social work or counseling are needed. Office support aides answer telephones and questions from the public, collect data and do other work. Training is provided for both jobs.
