MEXICAN STOCKS

* Mexican stocks broke a three-day losing streak to end higher Wednesday, as the latest rise in short-term interest rates was less than expected.

* The Bolsa index gained 18.65 points to 2,260.18, even though the peso fell to another record low against the dollar as 28-day treasury bill rates neared 60%. Traders said some investors had assumed that the market would demand rates above 70% in compensation for the peso’s latest slide.

* Although stocks appear to be holding up relatively well, analysts say trading is thin, and they note that U.S.-listed Mexican shares have been devastated this year.
