ORANGE COUNTY ALMANAC : Military Background
What is now the city of Cypress was once part of a Spanish land grant to a soldier, Cpl. Manuel Nieto.
The Spanish government in 1784 gave him 300,000 acres that were later divided into smaller ranchos.
Cypress was part of two smaller divisions, Rancho Los Alamitos and Rancho Los Coyotes.
